Wayne Kent Hoxie, son of Frank and Carrie (Kent) Hoxie, was born on June 29, 1930, at Hand Community Hospital in Shenandoah, Iowa. He passed into eternal rest on Monday, January 10, 2022, at Good Samaritan Society – Red Oak, at the age of 91 years, 6 months, 12 days.
Growing up on the family farm north of Shenandoah on Highway 59, Wayne attended country school through the 8th grade. He graduated from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1948. After graduating from high school, he farmed for a year with his dad and then enrolled at Iowa State University.
While attending Iowa State, the Korean Conflict broke out and Wayne felt a strong calling to enlist in the United Air Force as several of his friends were being drafted. He completed his basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas and then completed engineering school at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Wayne then served on a funeral detail for six months at Davis Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona. From there, he was stationed at Anderson Air Force Base on the Island of Guam for two years. He finished out his four-year duty at the Lincoln Air Force Base in Lincoln, Nebraska. Wayne went on to serve an additional four years of inactive duty.
While stationed in Lincoln, Nebraska, he would meet his loving wife of 64 years, Martha Albrecht. Wayne and Martha were married on May 5th, 1957. They were blessed with two sons to this union, Scott and Bruce.
After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, Wayne returned to Shenandoah to farm. He was a farmer through and through, it was not only his occupation, but also his passion. His special passion was the years he and his son had a Limousin cattle herd. On any given weekend, if there was a Limousin cattle auction within 300 miles – he was there.
Wayne was a faithful member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Shenandoah and also a 68-year member of the American Legion Post #88 in Shenandoah.
Preceding Wayne in death were his parents, Frank and Carrie (Kent) Hoxie; son, Bruce (age 18); brother, Maurice Hoxie and wife Betty; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
