Her early life was spent growing up in northwest Missouri, living in the communities of Burlington Junction and Quitman. The family later moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where she attended high school.

On July 6, 1947, Stella was united in marriage to Galen G. Carpenter in Maryville, Missouri. To this union four sons were born, David, Dennis, Donnis and Steve.  Following their marriage, they returned to northwest Missouri living in Elmo, Maryville and Hopkins. Through the years, Stella worked at Albert Bell Jewelry, Rosecrans Chevrolet, as a CNA/Dietician, and lastly at Select Motors, retiring in 1994.  She enjoyed reading, quilting, vacations, and fishing, but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren.
