Memorials in Peggy's name are being directed to St. Croix Hospice.
Peggy Ruth (Gardner) Graham was born in the hills of Waubonsie State Park in November of 1935. During her last few months on this earth, she waited patiently, seeking for God’s light until she found it and followed his path home on May 15, 2021.
I am certain, as Peggy walked through that narrow door, God welcomed her into his heavenly kingdom with the words of “Well done!” She was also greeted by her parents, Hugh and Elsie (Kellison) Gardner; her brother, Orville Gardner; and a multitude of family and friends.
Peggy grew up in southwest Iowa. She raised her family there until she and her husband (of almost 68 years) Kenny retired from farming and went to live in Missouri for a few years. Iowa called them back, but they did not forget how to explore the USA. Peggy kept a journal that includes many stories of their travel experiences. One entry that I find most humorous is when they went on a little canoe ride - tipping the canoe over and losing their glasses in the water. They had quite a hike to get back to the truck and had to stop at a nearby gas station to purchase a magnifying glass to read the map to get back home. Peggy had many other hobbies during her retirement, including reading, camping, painting, and crafting. Peggy was quite an artist and sold many of the items she embellished at the craft shows in the local area for several years. Peggy loved her family and lived her life to the fullest each and every day. She saw the good in everything! Peggy was an amazing example of how to share God’s love. She taught her children to love each other, and in everything, to treat others the same way you want them to treat you. As this door closes, her family and friends must remember to tell their hearts to beat again.
She is dearly missed by her loving husband, Kenneth Graham, her family and her friends alike. To carry on her legacy, Peggy left behind her husband, Kenneth Graham; six children, Rose (Tom) Mendlik, Ron (Julie) Graham, Teresa (Dave) Riley, Gina (Don) Jennings, Linda (Scott) Crowley and Larry (Lorraine) Graham; sister, Linda Gardner; 16 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; other relatives; and many friends.
