Patrick James Maher was born on August 26, 1938, to Thomas P. and Catherine M. (Sweeney) Maher on the family farm north of Imogene, Iowa. Pat was the youngest child of the family. In Sun City West, Arizona, on June 8, 2021, Pat left his earthly home.
Raised on the farm, Pat’s farming career began at a very young age, and to one degree or the other, continued until his death. He attended school at St. Patrick’s Catholic school in Imogene. Later in life, Pat attended Reisch Auctioneering College in Mason City, Iowa and attended many hours of real estate classes. He was quick to learn whatever he made his mind up to do and accomplished a variety of projects, including house additions and putting up or taking down farm buildings. There was always something in the works!
Early on, Pat worked for Tyler Bottling Co. of Shenandoah. In 1963, Pat, Shirley and the three girls moved to the farm northwest of Imogene. Pat always had an interest in auctioneering, he’d auction off telephone poles, fence posts and windmills on family trips. Bet those of you who met him on the road thought he was waving to you – nope – he was taking your bid. The family started Triple K Auction, then things got serious! He went into business with Jesse McIntyre and that led to one of the most successful auctioneering businesses in the area. He sold real estate and auctioned for many years, covering nearly every square inch of southwest Iowa and northwest Missouri in every kind of weather. All the while having both feet and at least one hand in the farming operation.
Due to failing health, Pat put away his gavel, parked his cowboy boots and hung up his white hat, the last auction had been cried and it was time for rest in Sun City West, Arizona where he and Carolee spent the next few years.
Preceding Pat in death were two infant sons; his parents; four sisters, Patricia Veronica Maher, Mary (Marty) Anderson, Evelyn Maher and Mert (Cleo) Woosley; brother, Thomas (Ruby) Maher; and grandson, Carson Wayne Farmer. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Carolee Hamblin-Maher; daughters, Kimann (Scott) Hoxie, Kala (James) Duysen, Kelli Maher, Kolene Kohll, Kimberly (Kenny) McDonald and Kayla Gute; grandchildren, Dillon, Jayde, Guthrie, Brooke, Lexi, Meghan, Jessica, Jonathon, Heili, Hilary, Hayley, Anli and Carli; 23 great grandchildren; his beloved rescue dog, Rusti; other relatives; and many friends.
