Neva Maxine (Berger) Meek, daughter of John Wilfred and Annis Marie (Anderson) Berger, was born on October 6, 1929 in Shenandoah, Iowa. She entered into rest on Sunday, April 25, 2021 following a brief illness at Accura Health in Shenandoah at the age of 91 years, 5 months, 19 days.
The only child of John of Marie, Neva's early life was spent growing up on a farm near Essex, Iowa. At the age of five, Neva and her family moved to a farm near Farragut, Iowa where she attended the Farragut Community Schools, graduating from Farragut High School with the Class of 1947.
After briefly attending a business school in Omaha, Nebraska, Neva was united in marriage to Louis Meek in March of 1948. To this union three children, Louis, Jr, Karen "Katie" and Barbara were born.
In 1956, Neva went to work as a secretary at Central Surveys in Shenandoah, eventually becoming one of the Vice Presidents. She retired from Central Surveys in 2005, did some volunteer work for her church (Emmanuel Lutheran), then worked at Ladies' Apparel, Denise's and the Paper Trail in Shenandoah until the pandemic forced her into full retirement at the age of 90.
Neva enjoyed life greatly, but what she enjoyed most was her family. The friendship and love of her children and grandchildren and the growth of her great grandchildren were her greatest joy. Neva loved people, and her ready laugh (especially at herself) made people love her.
Preceding Neva in death were her husband, Louis Meek, Sr in 1994; and her parents, John W. and Annis Marie (Anderson) Berger. Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Louis Meek, Jr., and wife Cheryl, Karen "Katie" McQueen and husband Jim and Barbara Bosley and husband Gary; six grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty Rose; and niece, Jennifer Briscoe; other relatives and friends.
Celebration of life services are being planned in the near future.
