Merle M. Van Sickle, 63, of Shenandoah, Iowa, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. A celebration of life memorial service for Merle will be held on Friday, February 4, 2022, at 11:00 am at Christian Fellowship Church with Pastor Anna Miller officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends with visitation Friday morning, one hour prior to the service at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Christian Fellowship. Memorials are being directed to the Merle Van Sickle Memorial Fund. Burial will take place in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah.
Merle McKee Van Sickle was born, November 30, 1958, in Omaha, Nebraska to Richard Otis and Mary Joan (McCullough) Van Sickle. He entered into eternal rest on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 63 years, 1 month, and 28 days.
Merle grew up in Clarinda, Iowa where he attended school in the Clarinda School District. The family moved to Shenandoah his senior year, where Merle graduated with the Class of 1977.
He did yard work as a teenager, then performed janitorial work at Henry Fields and Farmaster until he began taking care of his family full time due to their declining health.
Cribbage and other card games were his favorite pastime. He enjoyed getting on the computer and playing games with friends. Merle was a member of TOPS for almost 20 years.
Merle will be remembered as a very kind, caring and patient son, sibling, and friend. He would do anything for anyone that needed help.
Merle was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Mary Joan Van Sickle; uncle, Charles McCullough; and his grandparents. Left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Deborah Van Sickle of Clarinda, Iowa and Donna Van Sickle, of Shenandoah, Iowa; many extended family members; and a host of friends.
