Johnathan T. Kraeger

February 8, 1965 ~ December 22, 2021 (age 56)



Johnathan Thomas Kraeger, 56, of Webster City, Iowa, and formerly of Clarinda, Iowa, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa.  Celebration of life funeral services for John will be held on Friday, December 31, 2021, at 1:00 pm at Nishna Valley Funeral and Cremation Service in Shenandoah with Pastor William Fidler officiating.  The family will greet relatives and friends with visitation and viewing Friday, December 31, 2021, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm prior to the service. Casual attire is requested by the family for all attending the services.  Cremation will take place following the services.  Memorials are being directed to the John Kraeger Memorial Fund.



Johnathan Thomas Kraeger, was born as Samuel Leroy Kanive on February 8, 1965, in Jackson County, Missouri and he lived with his mother, Madeline Choate in Des Moines, Iowa.  In 1972, he was put into foster care and taken in by Tom and Anne (Whithoff) Kraeger.  In 1973, he was adopted by Tom and Anne and his name was officially changed.   He entered into eternal rest on December 22, 2021, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa at the age of 56 years, 10 months, 16 days.

In 1975, John was baptized at the Millard Lutheran Church (Rejoice Lutheran Church).  John attended the Millard Public Schools and then Millard North High School, where he played football for the Mustangs.  He graduated from Millard North with the Class of 1983.

Through the years, John worked various jobs.  But the two jobs he enjoyed the most was working for Paul Mellencamp, a farmer in Clarinda, Iowa, and then after a career change, working at the Clarinda Orscheln’s Farm and Home as the Tire Shop manager.  In his spare time, John enjoyed fishing, camping, cooking, working on cars, painting cars and tractors and spending time with family and friends.

Preceding John in death were his adoptive parents, Tom and Anne Kraeger of Littleton, Colorado; his biological mother, Madeline Choate of Des Moines, IA; three sisters, Irene Johnson Yeager of Des Moines, IA, Barbara Kanive (Barbie) of Rome, GA, and Jennifer Kraeger of Kansas City, MO; and several aunts and uncles.

Left to honor his memory are his girlfriend, Patti Scott of Webster City, IA; two daughters, Kayla Duncan and husband Peter of Essex, IA, and Bobbi Jo Hamm and husband Chris of El Dorado Springs, MO; son, Cadyn Kraeger of Kearney, NE; brother, Kenneth Choate, Jr, of Von Orme, TX; four grandchildren, Brayden Hamm, Addison Hamm, and Alexandria Hamm, all of El Dorado Springs, MO and Draven Duncan of Essex, IA; other relatives; and a host of friends.
