Jeff Abbott

1960 ~ 2021 (age 61)



Jeff Abbott, 61, husband of Tammy (McGinnis) Abbott of Lawrence, Kansas and formerly of Shenandoah, Iowa entered into rest on Saturday, March 13, 2021 following a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by his loving family.

A memorial mass in Jeff's honor will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Imogene with Father Lazarus Kirigia as Celebrant.  Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Shenandoah American Legion Post #88 Honor Guard.  Memorials may be directed to the Jeff Abbott Memorial Tree Fund and sent to: c/o Jeff Abbott Memorial Tree Fund, P O Box 277, Shenandoah, IA 51601.  The family is wanting to plant a tree(s) in Jeff's honor in Shenandoah.


Jeffery L. Abbott, son of Leslie Vincent Abbott, Jr, and Joyce Elaine (Herold) Falk, was born on January 24, 1960 in Nebraska City, Nebraska.  He entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at the Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri, at the age of 61 years, 1 month, 19 days, following a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by family.

His early life was spent growing up in Shenandoah, Iowa, where he attended the Shenandoah Community Schools, graduating from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1978.  While in high school, he participated in FFA, Vocational Agriculture, Band and Football.

Following high school, Jeff attended Iowa State University where he studied economics and political science.  While at Iowa State, he was a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity.  After college, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving as a Green Beret in the Signal Corps.  He later served in the United States Army Reserves.

On July 22, 1983, Jeff was united in marriage to Tammy S. McGinnis, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shenandoah.  Following their marriage, they made their home in Lawrence, Kansas.  Jeff and Tammy were blessed with three children, Ryan, Taylor and Austin.

Jeff worked for the Federal Reserve as a Computer Systems Analyst.  In his spare time, he enjoyed reading, swimming, bird watching, woodworking and adventure hiking.  Most of all, Jeff loved spending time with his family.  He always enjoyed vacationing with his family to Cape San Blas, Florida.  He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lawrence.

Preceding Jeff in death were his parents, Leslie Abbott, Jr, and Joyce Falk.  Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of over 37 years, Tammy Abbott, of Lawrence, KS; son, Ryan Abbott, daughter, Taylor Abbott and son, Austin Abbott, all of Lawrence, KS; sister, Julie Abbott of Shenandoah, IA; brother, Jason Falk of Shenandoah, IA; other relatives and many, many friends.
