Janice grew up on the family farm near Essex, Iowa.  Throughout her youth Janice and her family were active members of the Essex Covenant Church. She attended Pierce Center Country School not far from her home, graduating 8th Grade in 1950.  Janice went on to attend Shenandoah High School and graduated with the Class of 1954. She was active in concert and marching band playing the French horn under the direction of Dr. Creighton.

While in Omaha, they were blessed with three children, Richard, Susan, and Robert.  In 1963, Ed was transferred, and the family moved to Shenandoah.

Janice became employed with Hand Hospital in Shenandoah on a part time basis while the children were raised.  Blessings were added to the family in 1973 when son David Emil was born.  The family were active members of the United Methodist Church in Shenandoah.

Janice continued to work as a nurse in Clarinda and then returned to the Shenandoah Hospital as a surgical nurse.

Preceding her in death were her husband of 55 years, Edward; granddaughter, Andrea Needham; parents, David and Laura Ackerberg; and sisters, Gladys Howard and Verona Yates.  Janice is survived by her four children, Richard and wife Jennifer Anderson, Geneva, IL, Susan and husband Daniel Needham, Omaha, NE, Robert and wife Shani Anderson, Cheyenne, WY, and David and wife Deanna Anderson, Waukee, IA; nine grandchildren, Laura, Anna, Claire, Emma, Sam, Kelsey, Kalie, Duncan, and Brantly; six great grandchildren, Lennox, Zoe, Jameson, Jordyn, Jack, and Norman; brother, Leland Ackerberg and wife Kathy, Essex, IA; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives; and a host of friends.
