Douglas Wayne Curry, son of Donald Lee, Sr, and Norma Jean (Rucker) Curry, was born on October 1, 1958, in Washington DC.  He unexpectedly entered into eternal rest on Monday, August 16, 2021 at his home in Shenandoah, Iowa, at the age of 62 years, 10 months, 6 days.

His early life was spent growing up on the east coast in Vienna, Virginia.  Doug attended and graduated from Oakton High School with the Class of 1977.  Growing up, Doug had an exceptional baseball career.

On July 12, 1980, Doug was united in marriage to Danette Lynn Dickerson in Vienna, Virginia.  Following their marriage they resided in Sterling, Virginia for nine years before moving to Shenandoah, Iowa, in 1989.  They were blessed with one daughter, Alexandra Lynn.

After graduation, Doug worked part-time at a photography studio before beginning work full-time with the United States Postal Service in 1979.   Doug worked for the Postal Service until he retired as postmaster in 2014 after 35 years of service.  Most of his time was spent working in the Red Oak Post Office as supervisor and postmaster.

Doug enjoyed storm chasing, photography, gardening and golfing.  Together with his father-in-law, Jack Dickerson, they shared their love of golf with Alex.  He was incredibly proud of Alex’s accomplishments, both on and off the golf course.  After retirement, Doug dedicated his time to his garden and bird feeders.

The last two months of Doug’s life were spent enjoying his new granddaughter, Wesley.  He was thrilled to be a grandfather and spent his time building Wesley a swing.

Preceding Doug in death was his father-in-law, Jack Dickerson.  Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Danette (Dickerson) Curry; daughter, Alexandra Lynn Philipps and her husband, Dillon; granddaughter, Wesley Lynn Philipps; his parents, Donald Lee Curry, Sr, and Norma Jean Curry; two brothers, Donald Lee Curry, Jr, and Michael Alan Curry and wife Liz; mother-in-law, Elaine Dickerson; brother-in-law, Daniel A. Dickerson and wife Patti; other relatives; and many friends.
