Deborah Jean Rivers, 65, of Shenandoah, entered into eternal rest on Monday, March 30, 2020 at CHI Health St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln, NE following an extended illness.

A celebration of life memorial service for Deb will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at 1:00 pm at the Shenandoah Elks Club #1122. Following the service, lunch and fellowship with the family will be held. Memorials are being directed to the family. The service at 1:00 will be live streamed on Facebook Live and can be viewed by going to Nishna Valley Funeral and Cremation Services Facebook page.
Deborah (Fisher) Rivers was born on December 23,1954 in Kansas City, Missouri. Deb resided in St Joseph, Missouri until 1964 when she moved to Phoenix, Arizona with her parents Orville John and Rose Fisher. In 1971 Deb went to live with her uncle Crockie and aunt Florella Johnson in Maryville, Missouri, where she graduated from Maryville R-11 highschool in 1973. Deb traveled the west coast from 1973-1979 experiencing many free spirited adventures and meeting many colorful people. In 1979, Deb moved back to Maryville where she gained victory over addiction and met the Lord Jesus Christ.
In 1982, Deb moved to Shenandoah Iowa where she met the love of her life Rick Rivers. They were united in marriage at St John's Episcopal Church March 9,1985. They were blessed with two children, Raven and Thaddeus Rivers. Later in life John Wasson, Michelle Stiverson, and Micheal Wells joined the family by choice.
Deb gained a lot of life experience that she later used with her ministry through her occupations and college majors. She enjoyed working with recovering addicts through Page County Drug and Alcohol Assistance Agency. She also loved working with the handicapable at Nishna Productions where she coached special olympics creating NPI’s first cheerleading team. Deb also homeschooled her children and she owned and operated Rick and Deb’s Roundup Cafe with her husband.
After being born again Deb’s ministry started to unfold as a witness to Christ’s love where she led many people to the Lord. Through her ministry as a children’s pastor she was able to impact many many lives. After graduating from Living Word Bible college in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in ministry Deb became an ordained minister. She gained the loving title P.D. “Pastor Deb.”
On March 30th, 2020 the trumpets sounded and Deb’s walk on earth ended and her soul was swept to heaven in the arms of an angel.
Deb was preceded in death by her father Orville John Fisher; son, Thaddeus Rivers; and many other family members.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 35 years, Rick Rivers; daughters, Raven ( Daniel) Rivers-Swaink of Shenandoah, IA and Michelle Stiverson of Shenandoah, IA; sons, John Wasson of Villisca, IA and Micheal Wells of Shenandoah, IA; her mother, Rose Fisher of St. Joseph, MO; brothers, Terry Fisher of St. Joseph, MO and Larry (Willanne) Thomas of Bryan,TX; sisters, Laveda (Beth) Fisher-Devine of St.Joseph, MO and Tracy Metivier of Rochester, NH; grandchildren, Brenna Rivers, Roman Rivers, Hunter Swaink, Kayla Westover, and Essie (Dalton) Haler, all of Shenandoah and Joslyn Stiverson (Troy Housh) of Randolph, IA; eight great-grandchildren; many loving in-laws, nieces and nephews; other family and friends.
