Danny E. Houston, 70, of Shenandoah, entered into rest on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at the Shenandoah Medical Center.  Celebration of life funeral services for Danny will be held on Monday, February 1, 2021 at 11:00 am at Nishna Valley Funeral and Cremation Service in Shenandoah with Pastor Noel Gandy officiating.  Visitation will take place Monday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the funeral home prior to the service. Social distancing and face masks will be required for all attending.  Interment will take place in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah.  Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be directed to the Houston Family and sent to: C/O Houston Family, P O Box 277, Shenandoah, IA 51601.  Professional services are under the direction of Nishna Valley Funeral and Cremation Service in Shenandoah.


Danny Edward Houston, son of Raymond and Velda Bernice (Shelby) Houston, was born on August 25, 1950 in Albany, Missouri.  He entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at the Shenandoah Medical Center at the age of 70 years, 5 months, 1 day.

His early life was spent growing up in northwest Missouri.  He attended school in the Albany area.

On June 16, 1976 he married the love of his life, Willa Frances King, in Rock Port, Missouri.  Following their marriage, they made their home in Shenandoah, Iowa.  They had 45 wonderful years together.

Danny worked most of his life at the four nurseries in Shenandoah. Lakes Nursery, Mt. Arbor Nursery, Field’s Nursery and Earl May Nursery.  He also worked for a time at AG Partners.  Danny was a member of the First Christian Church of Tarkio, Missouri, but attended the Christ Point Baptist Church in Shenandoah at the time of his death.

A lover of the outdoors, Danny liked to hunt, fish and trap.  He especially enjoyed gardening.  Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

Preceding Danny in death were his parents, Raymond and Velda (Shelby) Houston; four brothers, Gene, J H, George and Jim; sister, Louise; and son, Tommy Houston.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Willa (Fran) Houston, of the home; three daughters, Penny (Jamie) Caldwell of Tarkio, MO, Mary Parker of Kingsland, TX and Sherry (Tim) Young of Bedford, IA; nine grandchildren, Josh, Spencer, Micah, Schuylar, Brandon, Tristan, Ian, Jesse and Makayla; sister, Patricia Shaw of Shenandoah, IA; three great grandchildren, Caleb, Ryker and Niya Smith of Tarkio, MO; three brothers-in-law, Charles (Pam) King of Colorado Springs, CO, Bob (Pam) King of Louisburg, KS and Bill (Diana) King of Gower, MO; two sisters-in-law, Sue Hahn of Polo, MO and Tressia Houston of Plainville, KS; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
