Charles Henry Van, 76, of Clarinda, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at his home following a courageous battle with cancer.
A celebration of life memorial service for Charles will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2020 at 11:00 am at Hillside Missionary Church (920 S 16th St) in Clarinda. There will be visitation one hour prior to the service. There is no limit on the number of people who can attend, but you must follow and adhere to the social distancing regulations currently in place. Please be safe. Charles Henry Van, son of John W. and Florence E. (Davidson) Van, was born on March 17, 1944 in Hamburg, Iowa. He entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at his home in Clarinda, Iowa following a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 76 years, 1 month, 19 days.
His early life was spent growing up in the Hamburg community where attended the Hamburg Community Schools, graduating from Hamburg High School with the Class of 1962. At a young age, he began working at the Hamburg Nursery. Always proud of his country, he served a short time in the United States Army.
On June 25, 1978, Charles was united in marriage to the love of his life, Arlinda Kay Wooley in Kansas City, Missouri. Following their marriage they made their home in Kansas City for a short time before moving to Hamburg and later to New Market, Iowa. They eventually settled in Clarinda.
In early adulthood, Charles worked in road construction for several years and then worked in high steel, building grain bins throughout the Midwest. During their early years of marriage, he worked in Kansas City at the landfill. From 1981 through 1986, Charles worked at the prison in Clarinda. While working at the prison, he was injured and became disabled.
A man of faith, Charles, was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Clarinda and is now a member of the Hillside Missionary Church in Clarinda. He enjoyed leather carving, working on cars, hunting and fishing. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Preceding Charles in death were his parents; infant son, Patrick W. Van; and two brothers, Roy Stockstill and Rick Van. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of over 41 years, Arlinda Van of Clarinda; daughter, Tuesday Rose and husband Mike of Clarinda; five grandchildren, Michael Rose, November Rose, Nevada Rose, all of Clarinda, Payton Singleton of Bedford, IA and Catie and Dustin Johnson of Omaha, NE; great grandson, Tristan Charles Johnson; brother, Tom Van and wife Becky of San Antonio, TX; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
