OBITUARY:

Catherine Marie (Kent) Ross, 91 years of age, died peacefully in her  sleep  on  July 4, 2021 at Tabor Manor Care Center with her husband, George, daughter, Cindy, sister, Carlene, and niece, Robin spending many last hours at her side.   She died of complications related to Alzheimer's.

On June 23, 1930,  Catherine  was  born  at  a cabin in Big Lake, Missouri  to  parents, Jennie  (Lundy)  Kent  and  Carl  Kent  who preceded her in death. She has one surviving sibling, Carlene Caton and her youngest sister Rosie  Gibson died in 1975.   She  attended Fortescue  High  School   in Fortescue, Missouri with the Class of 1948.   She  then  attended  Northwest  Missouri State  Teachers College in Maryville.   She  began  her  teaching  career  in  a  one room schoolhouse east of Shenandoah, Iowa (Frog Pond).  It was while teaching here that she met her future husband.

On October 20,  1950,  Catherine  married George W. Ross in Shenandoah,  Iowa,  five days before he  left  for  Korea.   When  he  returned  from the service, Catherine helped George open and run George’s Garage in Essex. She  passed her love of flowers to her three daughters, Sheryl (husband Steve)  Benedict,   Cindy  Agee  and   Janet   (husband  Robert  Young)  Williamson.

In 1967, Catherine embarked on a new career working as a postal clerk in Essex.  She retired from the post office in 1993 and later worked as a clerk at the China and Glass Shop in Shenandoah.  She was a wonderful cook who spoiled her husband and kids with home cooked meals and desserts.  She  was  a talented seamstress who made most of the kids’ clothes.  In addition, she taught herself to draw and paint and made many beautiful paintings for her family and friends to  enjoy.   She enjoyed reading, working puzzles,  staying  active  in  her garden, and walking, walking and more walking.

In addition to those mentioned above, she   also   leaves   her grandchildren and spouses, Meshara (Jacques) Gilbert, Kyle (Lynnette) King, Mike (Jodi) Agee, Jr.,  Ross (Jenny Lee) Agee,  Travis Agee  and Nathan (Elizabeth) Williamson.  Seven surviving great-grandchildren, Kalabria Gilbert (Joshua) Lemire, Logan Gilbert, Kyle Story and Bryson King, Mike Agee, III, Gabriel Agee and Beatrix Agee. Also surviving are sister-in-law Donna Ross, as well as many nieces,  nephews  and  great  nieces  and  nephews, as well as Catherine and Georges' special friends Delaine (Doodles) and Hazel Resh.

Those not previously stated who preceded her in death are sister-in-law, Orpha Rose Kite and husband Bob; brothers-in-law, Myron Ross and Larry (Hoot) Gibson; and sons-in-law, Mike Agee and Dwight Williamson.  She cultivated many lifelong friendships over coffee with family and friends who have passed before her and was very sad when Smokem the cat  went to heaven.
