Barbara Jean (Whitehill) Taylor, daughter of Robert Lee, Sr, and Vera Opal (Chambers) Whitehill, was born on April 27, 1942 at Hand Hospital in Shenandoah, Iowa. She entered into eternal rest on Friday morning, May 21, 2021 at her Shenandoah home surrounded by family at the age of 79 years, 24 days.
Her early years were spent growing up on a farm between Coin and Blanchard, Iowa. Barb attended Pleasant Hill country school and then attended Coin High School before consolidating with the South Page School District. She graduated from South Page High School with the Class of 1960.
On June 14, 1964, Barb was united in marriage to Junior Taylor at the Tarkio United Methodist Church in Tarkio, Missouri. Following their marriage, they made their home in Shenandoah. To this union one son, Tim, was born.
Through the years, Barb worked several jobs and grew an endless network of friends and co-workers. She began working at Montgomery Wards, Tip Top Bow Factory, the nurseries, Whitehill Gas & Oil (19 years), was co-owner of Taylor’s Bowl (19 years), cleaned several houses, cleaned the Shenandoah Fitness Center (6.5 years), and worked seasonally for Essex Elevator and later Green Plains Renewable Energy starting in 2007. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Shenandoah Food Pantry.
Barb came from a large family which she deeply cared for. She will be remembered as the matriarch of the Whitehill family who would always selflessly put others needs ahead of hers and as a friend whom a friend would want to have. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure to know her.
