William Leon Hanna, Sr, son of Walter and Frances Hanna, was born on April 25, 1939 at Weatherford, Oklahoma. He entered into rest on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at his home in Sidney, Iowa at the age of 80 years, 1 month, 5 days.
As a young boy, Bill spent his childhood between homes in Oklahoma, Missouri and California. He was educated through the eighth grade and like most kids that age went to work to help the family out.
Bill was married once, to Sally Jo Colbert, and to this union two sons, William Leon, Jr. and Delbert were born.
He worked a variety of jobs as a young man. He later found his way to Iowa and worked at the Iowa 80 Truck Stop at Wolcott for a number of years and then started trucking over-the-road long haul loads. He drove for J. B. Hunt when he retired.
In his retirement, Bill loved to fish, garden, do woodworking and attend craft shows.
In 1994, Bill met Dorothy Adams. They became friends and he was adopted as part of the family and spent the remainder of his years in Sidney. Dorothy's youngest daughter, Shawne Widener, became his caregiver in his last years as his health declined.
Preceding Bill in death were his parents; ex-wife, Sally; and brother, Butch. Left to cherish his memory are his two sons, William Hanna, Jr, of Savanna, IL and Delbert Hanna of Seal Beach, CA; his brother, Clarence Hanna of Oklahoma; sister, Flora Lou Smith of Clinton, OK; his adopted family; as well as other relatives and many friends.
