Vivian Joyce (Smith) Walker, daughter of Jesse Charles and Delores Marie (Lewis) Smith, was born on January 24, 1931 at Imogene, Iowa. Vivian entered into peace on Monday evening, August 20, 2018 at Windsor Manor Assisted Living in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 87 years, 6 months, 27 days.
Growing up in rural Randolph, Iowa, Vivian attended country school through the 8th grade. She graduated from Randolph High School with the Class of 1948.
On November 12, 1950, Vivian was united in marriage to Bob Walker at her parents' home near Randolph. Following their marriage they moved to a farm outside of Shenandoah. Two years later they moved to a farm west of Essex where they lived until purchasing and moving to their home farm in 1965. To this union four children were born: Kay, Linda, Brian and Clay.
Following high school, Vivian worked for Imp Implement in Randolph until her marriage. In 1950, she embarked on her lifelong journey of being a farmwife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She took much pride in the fact that she drove grain trucks during the harvest, had a large garden that raised a lot of their food. Flowers were one of her great loves.
An active wife and mother, Vivian was involved in several organizations, she was a faithful member of the Essex Presbyterian Church, the Merry Mixers and High Prairie Birthday Club and held offices within the church, the Madonna and Mary Circles and was secretary of the Randolph Alumni Association.
Gardening, raising flowers and working in her flower beds, square dancing with Bob and attending all of her children's and grandchildren's sporting events all brought great joy to Vivian. She was all about family and loved spending as much time as she could with them. She baked and decorated many cakes for weddings, birthdays or any occasion. Vivian was featured in the Iowa Farmer Today showcasing her baking and was interviewed by ABC News for her role as a farm wife.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Bob; two brothers, Carl and Kermit Smith.
