Virgil Elmer Wallis, son of Virgil Elmer and Myrtle (Smock) Wallis, was born on September 26, 1928 at Roodhouse, Illinois. He entered into eternal rest on Thursday, morning August 8, 2019 at his home in Villisca, Iowa at the age of 90 years, 10 months, 13 days.
His very early life was spent growing up in Roodhouse, Illinois. At the age of nine, he moved to an orphanage in Normal, Illinois, following the death of his mother. He began his early elementary schooling in Roodhouse, graduated high school in Normal and attended college in Normal.
A true patriot, Virgil, fibbing about his age, proudly enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II and flew as part of the crew on several missions towards the end of the war.
On March 24, 1984, Virgil was united in marriage to Donna Hoffman at Las Vegas, Nevada. They made their home in Sacramento, California before later moving to Villisca, Iowa.
Through the years, Virgil worked as a journeyman electrician in the sawmill industry throughout California and Oregon. After moving to Villisca, he worked for John Beem at Nodaway Valley Equipment in Villisca.
In retirement, Virgil was able to do more of the things he enjoyed such as cooking and antiquing. What he enjoyed most though, was spending time with his family.
Preceding Virgil in death were his parents; three children, Evelyn, Jim and Arlene; two brothers, James and Jack; and two sisters, Evelyn and Helen. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Donna Wallis; two sons, Ward Bovee and wife Jennifer of Apple Valley, CA and Gail Garey and wife Candy of Villisca, IA; three daughters, Sandra Garey and Mark Howard of Brooks, IA, Doris Wright and husband Dennis of Folsom, CA and Kimberly Church and husband Doug of Folsam, CA; 21 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
