Patricia Ann Lang, 77, of rural Essex and formerly of Shenandoah, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2019 at the Shenandoah Medical Center.
A celebration of life memorial service for Patricia will be held on Friday, June 14, 2019 at 11:00 am at Nishna Valley Funeral and Cremation Service in Shenandoah with Pastor Nancy Thomas officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends with visitation one hour prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the funeral home. Memorials in Patricia's name are being directed to the family. Inurnment will take place in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah.
Patricia Ann (Ward) Lang, daughter of Nathan Ercy Joseph Reed Ward and Hazel Marie (Barber) Ward was born on February 26, 1942 in Brooklyn, New York. She unexpectedly entered into rest on Monday, June 10, 2019 at the Shenandoah Medical Center at the age of 77 years, 3 months, 15 days.
Her early life was spent in Brooklyn, New York until 1946 when the family moved to Essex, Iowa. Pat’s mother died in an accident in 1944. Her father remarried in 1945 to Edna Bell Bullock.
Pat attended the Essex Community Schools from 1947 through 1953. Tragically her father passed away and she moved to Shenandoah where completed her schooling, graduating from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1960.
Following graduation she attended Tarkio College in Tarkio, Missouri and lived in Rock Port, Missouri. During this time she met Richard Lee Salfrank, whom she married on April 9, 1961 at Rock Port. To this union four children, Tod, Kelly, Susan and Charlie were born. They lived in Rock Port where she worked in the kitchen at Pleasant View Nursing Home and later at the Jack & Jill Grocery Store. In 1992, she and Richard divorced and Pat moved to Shenandoah.
On February 12, 1994, Pat was united in marriage to Richard Duane Lang. They lived in rural Essex, Iowa following their marriage. Pat worked at Sac N Save in Shenandoah and was a department manager at the Shenandoah Wal-Mart. She last worked at Pella, retiring from there in 2007.
She enjoyed golfing and played in leagues and tournaments around the area as member of the Rock Port Country Club. Pat was an avid reader, did ceramics and knitting, specially making blankets for the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Preceding Pat in death were her parents; first husband, Richard; step-mother, Edna Howard; and nephew, Doug Ward. Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Richard Duane Lang of the home; her four children, Tod Salfrank and wife Patty of Wamego, KS, Kelly Schuler and husband David of Lawrence, KS, Susan Woracek and husband Phillip of North Platte, NE and Charlie Salfrank and wife Robin of Tarkio, MO; three step-children, Cindy Lang of Shenandoah, IA, Randall Lang of Red Oak, IA and Rick Lang of Clarinda, IA; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; brother, Douglas Ward and wife Theresa of Seattle, WA; niece and nephew, Amy Ward of Seattle, WA and Mike Ward of Connecticut; cousin, Mary Lou Davis of Shenandoah, IA; other relatives and many friends.
