Macel Fern (Hensley) Tuck, daughter of Alex and Ollie Winfred (Lewis) Hensley, was born on July 22, 1932, near Rock Port, Missouri, the oldest of five children. She stepped into Glory on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa, at the age of 87 years, 2 months, 13 days.
When an infant, Macel’s family moved to Newton County, Arkansas and lived there until she was 10 years old. At that time, the family moved back to Missouri, near Fairfax. She attended Prairie Flower country school and Fairfax High School.
At the age of 16, Macel met the love of her life, Floyd Elmer Tuck. They were married on November 7, 1948 in Sidney, Iowa. This union lasted 68 years until Floyd passed away in 2016. On July 3, 1953, their only child, Doug, was born at Fairfax. They moved to the Tarkio, Missouri area and then to Shenandoah, where she resided the rest of her life.
For many years, Macel worked for George Jay Drug, managing the Hallmark store. In her spare time, she enjoyed making handmade quilts and crocheting beautiful afghans and doilies. She was an avid reader and read every night before bedtime. She attended services at the Faith Covenant Church in Essex.
Preceding Macel in death were her husband, Floyd; her parents; and two brothers, Willis and Curtis Hensley. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Doug Tuck and wife Michelle, granddaughter, Gabrielle Sparks and great granddaughter, Grace Sparks, all of Essex, IA; sister Wanda Exceen of Maryville, MO; brother, Wayne Hensley of Riverton, IA; sister-in-law, Janice Hensley of Sidney, IA; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Professional cremation arrangements were under the direction Nishna Valley Funeral and Cremation Service in Shenandoah.
