Larry R. McClintock, 73, of Essex, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 26, 2019 at the Shenandoah Medical Center.
Celebration of life memorial services will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at 10:30 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church in Essex. The family will greet relatives and friends with visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at the Nishna Valley Funeral Home in Shenandoah. Memorials in lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, are being directed to St. John's Lutheran Church in Essex or to the Essex Firefighters Association in Larry's name. Private family inurnment will take place in the Franklin Grove Cemetery north of Essex.
Larry Riley McClintock, son of Riley and Ella Louise (Nelson) McClintock, was born on January 19, 1946, in Red Oak, Iowa. He unexpectedly entered into rest on Friday, July 26, 2019 at the Shenandoah Medical Center at the age of 73 years, 6 months, 7 days.
Growing up on the family farm north of Essex, Iowa, Larry developed a deep love for agriculture and farm life. He attended country school at Franklin Grove through the sixth grade, later attending the Essex Community Schools, graduating from Essex High School with the Class of 1964. He then attended Iowa State University in Ames, receiving his BS Degree in Ag Business in December of 1968. While in college, Larry was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and the Iowa State Rodeo Club. During his college summers, he worked on a ranch in Wyoming and in a grocery store in California.
On August 31, 1968, he was united in marriage to Beverly June Bosley in Shenandoah, Iowa. This union was blessed with three children, Kris, Chad and Bert.
Larry enjoyed living on his family farm where he raised his family, farmed and tended to his livestock. In later years, he worked seasonally at the Essex Elevator, the Red Oak and Shenandoah Sale Barns, and helped Clemie Sederburg do concrete work.
Larry was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Essex where he served as Church Board Treasurer and was on the Cemetery and Memorial Committees. He held memberships in the Iowa Corn Growers Association, Page County Cattlemen, Iowa Farm Bureau and Shenandoah Elks Lodge #1122.
For enjoyment, Larry liked to do puzzles, Sudoku books and attend his grandkids’ sporting events and school activities. He also enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, traveling and watching cartoons, with his favorite being Looney Tunes and “Tweety Bird”.
Preceding Larry in death were his parents, Riley and Ella; sister, Jane; father-in-law, Carl Bosley; and special uncle, Dale Hobbs.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 50 years, June McClintock of Essex; daughter, Kris Adkins and husband Dean of Shenandoah and their children, Mikayla, Claire and Sophia; son, Chad McClintock and wife Amy of Essex and their children, Cody and Camryn; son, Bert McClintock and wife Tia of Fairfax, IA and their children Collin and Paige; brothers-in-law, Dee McComb and Gary Bosley and wife Barb and family of Shenandoah; sister-in-law, Karen Butler and husband Jim and family of Omaha, NE; niece, Tammy Brand and husband Roger and family of Apache Junction, AZ; nephew, Brian McComb and family of Lakewood, CO; mother-in-law, Helen Bosley of Shenandoah; special aunt, Mary Hobbs of Shenandoah; and a whole host of other relatives and friends.
