In her very early years, Joyce’s family lived in Riverton, Iowa and Braddyville, Iowa. When Joyce was four years old, the family moved to Elmo, Missouri where she attended Elmo elementary school during which time she was a member of the Elmo 4-H club. She was baptized in 1963 and became a member of the Community of Christ Church in Maryville, Missouri.
Growing up on the farm, Joyce learned many valuable life lessons and traits. She helped with the gardening, canning and meal preparation for the family. Along with her brothers and sisters, she spent many hours walking beans, one summer of detasseling corn, as well as assisting with the livestock chores and taking lunches to the field during harvest time. She also enjoyed projects of sewing, food and nutrition and made several of her own outfits. Joyce was a 1968 graduate of West Nodaway R-1 High School where she was very active in the high school choir.
After high school Joyce attended Business College in Omaha, Nebraska. It was during this time at college that she met and married Earl Schlotfeld. To this union two sons, Earl J and Rex Allen, were born.
Later in Joyce’s life she met and married Dale Partridge adding Michelle and Michael to their family. After a short time of working at Control Data, Joyce then assisted Dale in his business “One Stop Music”. Dale repaired band instruments for all the area High Schools along with providing music lessons to area students.
In 1998, Dale and Joyce moved to Clearwater Beach, Florida when they bought and managed the Amber Tides Motel. Joyce provided the laundry and housekeeping end of the business along with assisting where ever she was needed until they lost the motel to city rezoning and construction. Joyce then worked for 10 years in home health caring for the elderly in need until her health forced her to give up her career.
