Edith Aletha Beery

August 24, 1930 ~ October 13, 2018 (age 88)

Edith Aletha Miller Beery was born on August 24, 1930 in Clarinda, IA, the daughter of Glenn and Irma (Loy) Miller. She entered into eternal rest on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at the Clarinda Regional Health Center in Clarinda, Iowa at the age of 88 years, 1 month, 19 days.

Growing up on the family farm west of Clarinda, Edith graduated from Clarinda High School with the class of 1948. On June 26, 1949 she was united in marriage to Robert Clark Beery in Clarinda. The couple was blessed with five children, Stephan, Linda, Mark, Paula and Carol. Edith was a homemaker and worked very hard on the family farm not only helping Robert farm but taking care of the children.

A faithful woman, Edith enjoyed reading her bible, bible studies as well as teaching Sunday school at Norwich United Methodist Church for many years. Edith was an avid gardener, her yard flourished with flowers of all varieties and garden prolific with vegetables. Canning most of what she grew. She was a member of the Farm Bureau Chorus, where they performed on T.V. in the mid 1960's. Edith sold Avon for a number of years. Many Sunday afternoons were spent with her Mother and sister oil painting and working other pieces of art in a variety of mediums. When they tired of art the word games like Scrabble and Upwords came out. When time allowed she was an avid reader and sailed through many a book. Much of the furniture in her home was refinished and reupholstered by her skilled hands.

Edith is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; son, Stephan; grandson, Glen Dean Beery, brother, Glenn Charles Miller; sister, Phyllis Beery; brother-in-law, Wendell Beery and son-in-law, Joe Lauber.

Edith is survived by her children, Linda Lauber, Mark Beery, Paula Hayes and her husband Joe, and Carol Beery all of Clarinda, IA; grandchildren, Kyle Hayes and his wife Rheanna of Tekamah, NE, Megan Beery of Glenwood, IA, and Drew Lauber and his wife Ann of Clarinda, IA; 7 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Carolyn Beery of Clarinda, IA; special friends Betty Black of Clarinda, IA; Don and Bessie Runyon of Arkansas; other relatives and a host of many friends.

A Celebration of Life Service was held on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Nishna Valley Funeral and Cremation Service in Shenandoah with Phil Wing officiating. Visitation was two hours prior to services at the funeral home. Urn bearers were Mike Bix, Jon Bix, Gary Reeve and Warren Andrew. Honorary bearers were Kyle Hayes, Tom Young, Milo Beery, Steve Morris and Don Runyan. Special music was performed by Megan Beery, who sang, "Amazing Grace", with accompaniment by Pam Lewis on the piano. Attending the guest book was Christine Geer. Inurnment took place in the Baker Cemetery. Memorials in Edith's name are being directed to the Shenandoah Public Library.
