Debbie Monahan, 68, of Shenandoah, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday morning, August 8, 2019 at the Shenandoah Medical Center.
Celebration of life memorial services will be held on Monday, August 12, 2019 at 10:30 am at Nishna Valley Funeral and Cremation Service in Shenandoah with Pastor Kurt Hoover officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends with visitation Sunday afternoon, August 11, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place in Shenandoah's Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorials in Debbie's name are being directed to People For Paws.
Deborah “Debbie” Marie (Tolliver) Monahan, daughter of Melvin Truman and Kathleen (Loney) Tolliver was born on December 27, 1950 at Dunlap, Iowa, one of eleven children. She entered into eternal rest on Thursday morning, August 8, 2019 at the Shenandoah Medical Center at the age of 68 years, 7 months, 12 days.
Her early life was spent growing up in the Woodbine, Iowa area. She attended the Woodbine Community Schools, graduating from Woodbine High School with the Class of 1969.
On October 3, 1969, Debbie was united in marriage to the love of her life, David Edward Monahan at Woodbine, Iowa. Following their marriage they made their home in Woodbine before moving to Shenandoah in 1973. To this union, one daughter, Trina, was born.
Debbie was gifted with a natural artistic ability that was put to good use working as a self-employed painter and wall paper hanger. Through the years, she was able to help brighten and improve the living spaces for many homeowners in Shenandoah and the surrounding communities from 1979 until retiring in 2004.
Following retirement, Debbie was able to enjoy more of the things she enjoyed such as gardening, working in her flower gardens and antiquing. She loved animals, especially cats, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her husband and family. She was a member of the Shenandoah Emmanuel Lutheran Church and was active with People For Paws.
Preceding Debbie in death were her parents; brother, Jay Tolliver; sister-in-law, Gayle Tolliver; and a nephew, Jason Tolliver. Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband of nearly 50 years, David Monahan of the home; daughter, Trina Baldwin and her husband, Bruce and their children, Avery and Erin, all of Shenandoah; nine siblings, Linda Tolliver of Arizona, John Tolliver and wife Zelmea of Surprise, AZ, Gary Tolliver and wife Linda of Seattle, WA, Cheryl Peterson of Omaha, NE, Harry Tolliver and wife Sherri of Omaha, NE, Chris Hatterman of Woodbine, IA, Sandy Larson of Harlan, IA, Allen Tolliver and wife Ruth of Omaha, NE and Cindy Ames and husband Mike of Shenandoah; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
