Carrol Paul Gruber, son of Paul Carl and Mary Elizabeth (Livingston) Gruber, was born on December 24, 1925 on the family farm in Locust Grove Township, Fremont County, Iowa.  He entered into eternal rest on Friday, June 14, 2019 at Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa following a brief illness at the age of 93 years, 5 months, 21 days.

His early years were spent growing up in the Locust Grove area where he attended country school and later Farragut High School, graduating with the Class of 1943.  He began farming as soon as he was able to help his father do so sprouting the seed that turned into a budding life-long career of farming.

On July 7, 1946, Carrol was united in marriage to the love of his life, Ellen Pauline Harris at the Locust Grove Methodist Church.  Carrol and Pauline met when his brother, and her sister, dated and later married.  To this union, four children, Sherry, Randy, Sam and Sheila were born.  Following their marriage they farmed in Page County, Iowa, where Carrol raised his family, corn, soybeans, hogs and cattle (in the early years), along with doing custom baling.

He and Pauline were longtime members of the Norwich United Methodist Church until its closing.  Carrol enjoyed camping with his family and friends, traveling across the United States and spending winters in Arizona.

Preceding Carrol in death were his parents; daughter-in-law, Barbara; brother, Harold; and sister, Lois.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of nearly 73 years, Pauline (Harris) Gruber of the home; their four children, Sherry Hoffman and her husband David of Independence, VA, Randy Gruber and special friend Carole Dawson of Bedford, IA, Sam Gruber and his wife Adrion of Clarinda, IA,  and Sheila Freed and her husband Mike of Essex, IA; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; brother, Richard Gruber of Shenandoah, IA; sister, Virginia Winkler of Zilla, WA; other relatives and many friends.
