Carol Anne Herold

November 4, 1944 ~ October 12, 2018 (age 73)

Carol Anne (Breese) Herold, daughter of William and Ruby (Halvin) Breese, was born on November 4, 1944 at Red Oak, Iowa. She entered into rest on Friday, October 12, 2018 at her home in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 73 years, 11 months, 8 days.

Her early life was spent growing up in Red Oak, where she enjoyed riding horses and often talked about her midnight rides with her mother. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where she was baptized. She attended the Red Oak Community Schools, graduating from Red Oak High School with the Class of 1962.

On April 28, 1963, Carol was united in marriage to Johnnie Herold in Shenandoah. To this union five children were born, Jay, Christina, Sandra, Jerry and Mark. She and Johnnie would later divorce. Eventually, she found her life partner, Harley Taylor, and her family grew with the addition of Harley's three children, Steve, Debra and Renee.

Over the years, Carol worked various jobs before joining Lloyd Laboratories. She was at Lloyd's for 28 years before retiring. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting (making many quilts for charity), sewing and gardening. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren.

Carol was an avid member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and held many offices during that time. Some of those included Madam Secretary, Madam Treasurer, Madam Conductor, State Conductor, Madam Vice-President, State Chaplain, Madam President, State Vice-President, Jr Past Madam President, State President-Elect and was currently serving as Madam State President of Iowa. She was a huge supporter of many charities where she volunteered much of her time. The Iowa State Auxiliary, Future Grand Madam President, the Verna Funk Scholarship fund and her current state charity, HERO were especially important.

Preceding Carol in death were her parents; infant son, Jerry Herold; Harley Taylor in 2012; and sister-in-law, Kim Breese. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Jay Herold (Ronda Hughes) of Shenandoah IA, Christina (Mike) Comstock of Glenwood IA, Sandra (Doug) Schluter of Maryville MO, Mark (Marsha) Herold of Shenandoah IA, Steve(Cindy) Taylor of Pacific Junction IA, Debra King of Tabor IA, Renee Taylor of Omaha NE. Grandchildren Lukas Herold (Elizabeth Eischeid), Lexie and Lynde Herold, Tony Comstock (Calyn Wilcoxson), Matthew (Tricia) Comstock, David (Sara) Schluter, Allisa (Jason) Baughman, Derrick (Jaime) Schluter, Austin and Blake Herold, Michael Taylor(Emily Stogdill), Brandi Hansen, Shon (Shannon) Goodman, Sara (Ronnie) Starmer, Jason Wake, Jennifer Wake. Great-grandchildren Harper, Taryn, Jerod, Olivia, Ace, Hennessey, Chrissy, Jazmaine, Brendon, Chris, Devan, Kade, Xander, Jordan, Peyton, Ivy, Lane, Reece, Chance, Nash; two brothers John Breese of Omaha, NE and Fred (Laura) Breese of Lousiville, KY, sisters-in-law Marvis Henry, Carolyn Sederburg, Joyce Falk and Jo Harold; brothers-in-law Raymond (Judy) Herold and Larry Chambers; many neices, nephews, other relatives and friends including her brothers and sisters from the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 2, 2018 at the Nishna Valley Funeral and Cremation Service with Mike York, officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at the funeral home.
