Carol Ann Cline

March 22, 1940 ~ October 21, 2018 (age 78)

Carol Ann (Bang) Cline, daughter of Villium Emil Christian and Helena Clara (Horstman) Bang, was born on March 22, 1940 at Hand Hospital in Shenandoah, Iowa. She entered into rest on Sunday morning, October 21, 2018 surrounded by family at her daughter and son-in-law's home in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 78 years, 6 months, 29 days.

Her early life was spent growing up in Shenandoah where she attended the Shenandoah Community Schools, graduating from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1958. Following graduation, Carol attended Northwest Missouri State Teachers College receiving a two year teaching certificate.

On August 21, 1960, Carol was united in marriage to Fredrick Johnson Cline at the Lutheran Church in Shenandoah. Following their marriage they resided in Omaha, NE, Harlan, IA, Canton, SD, and Hamburg, IA, before settling back in Shenandoah, as Fred worked his way up to Administrator at Hand Community Hospital.

Working for a few years as a teacher in Omaha, Carol eventually focused on becoming a homemaker to Fred and their two children, Curtis Christian and Cynthia Ann. In 1984, after going back to school to get her teaching certificate at Tarkio College and unable to find a teaching job, Carol started her Summit Ave Florist business. It was a modest beginning with a small one room building with no running water across the street from the now demolished middle school. Carol's business soon grew and by 1986 she and Fred purchased a building downtown and in 1991 purchased what is now known as Shenandoah Floral. Loving her work, Carol continued to work after selling her business in 2004 right up until the day before breaking her hip on October 8, 2017.

Always active in the community, Carol was involved in a number of clubs; Beta Sigma Phi; Music Club; Book Club; Bridge Club and PEO. She and Fred were also very active in the SWITG (Southwest Iowa Theater Group) where she served on the board and was Treasurer. Both Fred and Carol were active in the First United Methodist Church, serving on several committees and were instrumental in forming the FORUM Sunday School Class and the Fifth Quarter (Friday night gatherings at the church for the youth of Shenandoah after football games).

Family vacations were important to Carol and each summer they would go on vacations and by the time the kids had graduated from high school they had visited all 48 states. Carol loved flowers and took great pride in providing arrangements and plants for all of life's moments to many generations. Going to the movies with her friends was something she always looked forward to. She loved going on walks with her pug dog, Pugsley, who accompanied her and Fred on winter trips to California.

Preceding Carol in death were her parents and beloved husband, Fred. Left to cherish her memory are her two children, Curt Cline and wife Atsuko of San Francisco, CA and Cindy Kitsmiller and husband Tim of Lincoln, NE; one grandson, Izaac Kitsmiller of Lincoln, NE, a certified athletic trainer for the Omaha Public Schools; numerous cousins; other relatives and many friends.

A funeral celebration of Carol's life will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at 10:30 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Shenandoah with Pastor Luke Fillmore officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends with visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Burial will take place next to her husband, Fred, in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah. Memorials in Carol's name are being directed to the Shenandoah First United Methodist Church.
