Betty L. McCall Ratcliff, 81, of Shenandoah, Iowa passed away unexpectedly on Monday morning, July 15, 2019 at the Shenandoah Medical Center.
A celebration of life memorial service for Betty will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Nishna Valley Funeral and Cremation Service. The family will greet relatives and friends with visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Wednesday evening, July 17, at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah. Memorials in Betty's name are being directed to the family.
Betty Lou (Gray) McCall Ratcliff was born on January 2, 1938 to Cora (Vaughn) and Teddie Theodore Gray in Watson, Missouri. She attended school in Sidney and Shenandoah, Iowa and was proud to receive her GED in December 1971.
Betty and George McCall were united in marriage and were blessed with two daughters, Barbara and Teresa.
While living in Shenandoah, Betty worked at Ray Stewart’s Produce, Union Carbide in Red Oak, Iowa, and at the Eaton Corporation in Shenandoah.
On September 27, 1974, Betty and Robert Ratcliff were married. They moved to Chariton, Iowa where they made their home until January 1975, when they moved to Corydon, Indiana. They lived there for five years and Betty worked at the Credit Bureau. They moved to Jasper, Indiana in 1980. Betty and Robert traveled and lived in Florida doing telephone construction work, then moved and lived in Mississippi, Alabama, and Kentucky, where they finally settled for 17 ½ years. Betty worked for Johnsons Control Company for 12 years. She retired when the company moved their operations to Mexico.
In June of 2007, at the age of 69, Betty received her diploma in Computer Information Technology after attending Draughons Junior College in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Betty and Bob moved back to Chariton in October 2008 then moved to Shenandoah in 2009.
Betty passed away unexpectedly at the Shenandoah Medical Center on July 15, 2019, at the age of 81 years, 6 months, and 13 days.
Preceding Betty in death were her parents; daughter, Teresa McCall; sister, Norma Burroughs and her children, Ricky and Patricia; and brothers, Leonard Gray and Robert Gray.
Survivors include her husband of almost 45 years, Robert Ratcliff of Shenandoah; daughter Barbara (McCall) Andrews of Shenandoah; grandchildren, Joshua Wellborn and wife Sheri of Omaha, NE, and Melanie Wellborn and friend Chris Horn of Shenandoah; great grandchildren, Addison Schelling, Dylan Wellborn, Katelyn Wellborn – Saiz of Shenandoah, and Kylie Wellborn of Omaha; sister, Luella Hickman and husband Rex of Shenandoah; step children, Carrie Hanna, and Craig Ratcliff and Angie of Chariton; step grandchildren, Tim Ratcliff and daughter, and Joe Ratcliff of Chariton; along with many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
