Obituary for Mary M. Looper

Mary Margaret (Baker) Looper, daughter of Roy Ambrose and Amanda Irene (Coffey) Baker, was born on August 16, 1931 in Fremont County, Iowa. She entered into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Friday, July 27, 2018 at Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 86 years, 11 months, 11 days.

Her early years were spent growing up in the Villisca, Iowa area. Mary attended school at Swisher country school near Villisca through the eighth grade. She graduated from Villisca High School with the Class of 1948. Upon graduation, Mary moved to Shenandoah, Iowa and embarked on a long career with Earl May Seed & Nursery.

On January 10, 1953, Mary was united in marriage to Adrian Harner Looper in Bedford, Iowa. Following their marriage they made their home in Shenandoah, Iowa. To this union, two sons, Chad V. Looper and Kent A. Looper were born.

Working for close to 47 years at Earl May's, Mary was a faithful and dedicated employee. She would finish out her career with Earl May's in 1995 upon her retirement. Through that period of time, she only took extended time off, other than her regular vacation time, when Chad and Kent were born.

Her church and church family were always a constant in her life. Mary was a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Shenandoah, where she was an Elder Emeritus. She served the church in many capacities through the years, including being church secretary for many years. She was active in the Disciples Women's Fellowship and several bible studies, among other things. She was always willing to do what she could to give back to her church family. She was also very active in TOPS and was a member of Rebekah Lodge.

In her spare time, she loved to read and always enjoyed spending time at her church and the Senior Center. She assisted Adrian whenever needed with his towing and tree trimming services and cleaning ducks during the hunting season.

Preceding Mary in death were her husband, Adrian H. Looper in 1993; her two sons, Kent A Looper in 2017 and Chad V. Looper in 2018; brother, Donald Baker; and her parents. Survivors include her brother, George Baker and his wife Malinda of McKinney, TX; three nieces, Roxanna Hill and husband Steve of Slidell, LA, Mary Sharp and husband Bryan of McKinney, TX and Tracy Wilemon and husband Mark of Roanoke, TX; other relatives and many friends.
