Obituary for Lonnie Charles Koch

Lonnie Charles Koch, son of William and Irene (Sunderman) Koch, was born on January 26, 1939 in Belgrade, Nebraska. The Lord called him home on Monday morning, January 30, 2017 after a long illness at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Red Oak, Iowa, at the age of 78 years, 4 days.

Lonnie graduated from Farragut High School with the Class of 1957. He was always active in community and town council to county planning and was a founding member of the Oakland Ambulance as an EMT. Lonnie had a full and rewarding life, working as the Oakland town cop to Gambles to delivering mail. He took great pleasure in his artwork and loved to travel. Lonnie was also active in other activities, the Hat Dancers and Nishna Valley Players. Upon moving back to Farragut, Lonnie was active in town council, the cemetery board and the Fremont County EMS Board. In addition, he volunteered as a taxi driver for the elderly.

Preceding Lonnie in death were his parents; brother, Earl; sister, Betty; and wife, Jeanette (Urbanek) Koch. Lonnie is survived by his loving wife, Shirley, whom he married on December 31, 1999. Four children, Chuck Koch and wife Ann, Eileen Bryer and husband David, Bob Koch and wife Lisa and Tom Koch and wife Amy; three step daughters, Kim Hoxie and husband Scott, Kayla Duysen and husband James and Kelli Maher. Lonnie loved his nieces and nephews, Kyle, Keevin, Earl, Carlene, Larry and Carla. Lonnie was blessed with eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; five step grandchildren; and five step great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Good Samaritan Society Care Center for their care these last two years. A memorial service is being planned at a later date. Your prayers and best wishes are sincerely appreciated. Memorials are being directed to the Farragut Fire Rescue in Lonnie’s name.
