Obituary for Jerry L. Moore

Gerald Lynn "Jerry" (Pup) Moore, son of Thomas Harrison Moore II and Alta Mae (Grape) Moore was born on October 2, 1947 in Shenandoah, Iowa. He passed away on Friday, February 23, 2018 at his home north of Essex, Iowa at the age of 70 years, 4 months, 21 days.

His whole life was spent in the Essex and Shenandoah area. He received his education in the Essex Community School System. Following high school Jerry spent six years in the Iowa National Guard.

On March 16, 1974, Jerry was united in marriage to Sally Jane Franks at the Essex Presbyterian Church. Following their marriage they made their home on the Moore family farm, where they have resided for the last 44 years.

Through the years, Jerry worked a variety of jobs. He was a farmhand, worked at Essex Elevator, Shen Ag, Earl May Seed & Nursery as truck driver, McNeilly Garage Doors, Henry Field Nursery, Red Oak Hog Farm and last worked at Southwest Iowa Rock & Sand as a truck driver.

Jerry was a member of the Essex Presbyterian Church. He loved horses and enjoyed horseback riding when able. He also liked to race motorcycles. Through the years, he acquired an extensive collection of horses, semis and John Wayne memorabilia. Watching his son, Chris, participate in his mud dragging and helping him work on his trucks brought great joy to him.

Preceding Jerry in death were his parents; infant brother; his grandma and grandpa Moore and grandma and grandpa Grape. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sally J. Moore; son, Chris Moore and wife Heather; daughter, Angie Moore and friend Dale Longinecker; four grandchildren, Austin Moore and fiancé Harley, Spencer Moore, Tyson Moore and Devinne Moore; great granddaughter, Elizabeth Moore; brother, Thomas “Butch” Moore III; aunt, Marjorie Priest; uncle Edward Grape; other relatives and many friends.
