Obituary for Gary S. Hiser

Gary S. Hiser, 70, of Shenandoah, passed away Thursday morning, September 7, 2017 at his home.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Sept. 11, 2017 at 10:30 AM at the Nishna Valley Funeral & Cremation Service in Shenandoah with Jeff Hiser officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends with visitation Sunday afternoon from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah. Memorials are being directed to the Family.

Gary Steven Hiser was born on May 9, 1947 to Geneva (Larson) and Clarence Hiser in Shenandoah, Iowa. He was raised on the family farm east of Shenandoah and attended country school and then Shenandoah schools.

Gary’s first job was with the Earl May Seed Company. Then he went to work for the Bob Neil Sign Company for several years. Gary was an excellent welder and went to work for Bob Christianson’s Millwright and then Bopp’s Carpet. He eventually went to work for himself in the construction business. He was a perfectionist when it came to his work. He could do his own plumbing and electrical work. He would do small and large projects for many people in the community.

On December 17, 1965, Gary was united in marriage to Sharon Delehant. To this union two sons were born, Jeff and Kent. He enjoyed playing baseball or football with the boys, even in the winter. He taught the boys how to box by using a mattress from the bed and tube socks for gloves.

Gary was an avid NASCAR and Husker fan. He also enjoyed helping work on the Bopp racecar. He always found time to work on special projects that interest him, such as building his own 1927 T-Bucket, an enclosed race-car trailer and a motorized bicycle.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Geneva Hiser, his father and mother-in-law, Paul and Anetta Delehant, and his oldest brother, Dennis Hiser.

Gary is survived by his wife, Sharon, of 51 years; sons, Jeff and Kent (Sherri) of Shenandoah, his beloved pets, Izzy and Felix; four grandchildren, Jared and special friend Rita Laughlin of Carson, Kyle of Des Moines, Chase of Sioux City, and Amelia of Shenandoah; brother, John of Omaha; and sister-in-law, Kaye Hiser of Bartlett, IL. Other close relatives include Angie (Boyd) Hamilton of Farley, IA, Krista Hiser of Hawaii, Treasure Canova (Mike) and Carla Hiser of Omaha; and many other family and friends.
