Obituary for Carolyn Lou Studey

Carolyn Lou (Hardman) Studey, daughter of Wayne and Geraldine (Hamilton) Hardman, was born on November 24, 1946 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. After a lengthy battle with cancer, she passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on January 14, 2017 at the age of 70 years, 1 month, 21 days.

The oldest of five children, Carolyn’s favorite memories of her childhood were moments spent with her siblings. She shared light hearted memories growing up with them. She attended the Malvern Community Schools, graduating from Malvern High School with the Class of 1964.
In 1968, Carolyn met Bernard Studey. They married and had four children together; Joni, Dave, Michelle (Shelly) and Shawn. Carolyn also helped raise her step children, Terry Studey, Tammy Skokan, Mark Blackburn and Debbie Stalnaker.

In 1988, Bernard passed away leaving Carolyn a widower. A couple years before Bernard passed away, she began working as a CNA and worked many years until her health declined. Carolyn’s children remained close to her after growing up and describe her as loving, loyal, strong, caring, nurturing and just plain perfect. Carolyn shared a home with her children for many years until she met Tom Stone in 2012. They shared companionship and a home in Shenandoah until she passed away.

A woman of strong faith, Carolyn attended both Christian Fellowship Church and the Nishna Valley Christian Church in Shenandoah. Over the years, Carolyn’s interests were camping, eating out, car rides, church, Christian music, word search puzzles, reading Christian historical romance books, spending time with her dogs and most importantly, spending time with her family.

The joy of Carolyn’s life was her grandkids. She adored each and every one of them including her fur grandchildren. From the oldest to the very newest baby, Pete, Carolyn found something special in each one. She prayed for them all daily and missed them when they were not around. They are her legacy of love.

Preceding Carolyn in death were her parents; loving husband, Bernard Studey; brother, Gary Hardman; and sister, Jeannie Hardman. Survivors include her companion, Tom Stone of Shenandoah; her four children, Joni Gittins and husband Lenny, Dave Studey and wife Christina, Michelle Studey and Pedro Rocha and Shawn Studey and wife Christy, all of Shenandoah; sister, Cindy Hardman of Malvern, IA; brother, Terry Hardman of Red Oak, IA; 21 grandchildren; one great grandson; five fur grand dogs; four fur grand cats; three fur dog children of her own; other relatives and many friends.

Carolyn’s own words to her children and other loved ones, “If I go to be with Jesus, don’t lose your faith in God , for I want to see you again someday.”
